Unfortunately, there is still significant concern in the UK about the cost of living with so many things increasing in price such as the cost of food and utility bills. So, you may find it interesting to read that the average amount paid for car insurance reduced slightly in the third quarter of 2026. If you own a motorhome then it is quite possible that you also possess a car that you use every day.
According to the most recent Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index that is published on a quarterly basis, the average premium for fully comprehensive car insurance amounted to £713 per annum in the UK. This is a drop of £22 per annum when compared with a year ago that equates to a fall of 3%. No, it is not a huge sum of money but any potential saving that some people may be able to make in the current economic climate has got to be applauded.
Of course, the above index relates to car insurance not motorhome insurance but wouldn’t it be great if the average amount to insure a motorhome has also dropped.
It will not come as a surprise to read that there are several things that insurance companies take into account when calculating how much to charge motorists to insure their cars including the likes of the make and model of the vehicle, the number of miles you estimate you will drive in a year, where you live, the level of cover and how old you are.
Age has a huge bearing upon the premium you pay with the young, inexperienced driver paying more on average than a mature, experienced driver. For example, if you are aged between 40 to 49 the average premium is £689 per annum but if you are aged between 20 to 29 the average premium is £1,254 per annum. However, wait for it, if you are in the age bracket of 17 to 20 the average premium is £1,860 per annum. As you can see, there is a huge difference in cost.
Where you live is also a factor that can make a big difference in car insurance premiums. If you live in Inner London, on average, you will pay the most to insure your car with premiums averaging £1,079 per annum but if you happen to reside in South West England the average premium was £550 per annum – almost half of that in Inner London.
