Motorhome owners will no doubt be aware of the war going on in parts of the Middle East at the moment. As a result, oil prices have risen significantly resulting in higher prices for petrol and diesel on forecourts here in the UK and no doubt in many countries around the world.

So, what could you possibly do to reduce the amount of fuel you use in your leisure vehicle when spending either a weekend or a week or two on holiday?

You really ought to make sure that your motorhome is serviced on a regular basis as this should help with the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Obviously, it is also important that your motorhome is serviced regularly anyway to, for instance, reduce the likelihood of the vehicle breaking down.

Check that the tyre pressure on your motorhome is at the correct level because if it is not you may use more fuel than you need to.

Do not over-fill your motorhome with personal belongings and food etc as the more weight you carry on board the greater the amount of fuel you will utilize.

When you accelerate from say a standing start do not do so with great gusto- accelerate progressively as if you shoot away getting from 0mph to 60mph in 10 seconds you will use more fuel than if it takes you 30 to 40 seconds to get to that speed.

Do make sure that you travel in the correct gear. For instance, you do not want to be driving along at 50mph in 2nd gear.

Travelling at a reasonable speed i.e. say 55mph rather than say 70mph on a motorway should result in you using less fuel.

Be selective about where you buy your fuel for your motorhome. Ideally, do some research before setting off on your holiday or whilst you are away to find out which petrol stations are offering petrol or diesel at the lowest price. You will no doubt be aware that there is a wide variance in prices between many petrol forecourts.

If you are travelling on the likes of a motorway then consider using your cruise control on flat road surfaces as in doing so may result in you not using as much fuel as you will be travelling at a constant speed.

Of course, many motorhome owners also possess a family car so the above things should also help you save on fuel usage thus potentially helping you contain expenditure on filling up your petrol or diesel tank.

We do hope that the above prove of benefit to you.
