We suspect that a larger percentage of owners of motorhomes also possess a car that he or she uses on a daily basis whether that is to commute to work or do the shopping on a weekly or daily basis. Those that do will hopefully find it of great interest to read that the cost of car insurance has dropped in the three months to February 2026 when compared with a year ago according to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index.
Whilst the above index relates to premiums to insure a car, it is quite possible that motorhome insurance premiums have also fallen.
The average premium for comprehensive car insurance here in the UK fell to £711 per annum. That is a reduction of £66 per annum – no small sum of money.
Motorists will no doubt agree that any potential saving that can be made in view of the current financial climate here in the UK has got to be a welcome one. Motorists are currently having to pay a huge amount more to put diesel or petrol in the fuel tanks of their motor vehicles whether it is a car or motorhome due in part to the recent occurrence of war in the Middle East between Iran and the USA.
Average car insurance premiums peaked at £995 per annum back in the quarter ending December 2023. So, as you can see, premiums have come down by a significant amount since then.
There are an awful lot of things that impact how much you pay for your car insurance and motorhome insurance such as the make and model of vehicle, how many miles you drive in the vehicle each year, where you live and how old you are.
If you just happen to live in Inner London then, on average, you will pay £1,093 per annum for car insurance with this being the most expensive region for such cover. If you live in the South West then the average premium is £492 per annum – significantly lower than Inner London. If you live in Central and North Wales then the average premium is £502 per annum. If you reside in the Scottish Borders then the average premium is £523 per annum. Those residing in Northern Ireland pay an average of £947 per annum.
If you are aged between 60 to 69 car insurance premiums averaged £448 per annum. If you are aged between 30 to 39 then the average premium is £850 per annum. If you are aged between 17 to 20 then premiums average £1,837 per annum. As you can see, it is, on average, younger drivers who pay more to insure their cars.
