If you are planning to make your first trip on holiday in your motorhome that you have either hired or purchased then you will need to decide where you are going to travel to. Are you intending to make for one location and, if so, how far are you intending to travel to get to your holiday destination.
It has to be said that for many people using a motorhome for the first time it may be prudent to make a fairly short trip. In doing so, it will hopefully be a long enough distance to help get you used to driving in the motorhome. It may be sensible to stay in the UK rather than cross over the English Channel to say France as at least you wouldn’t have to worry about having to travel on the opposite side of the road in comparison to travelling on roads in the UK.
Obviously, you will want to travel a sufficient distance from home in your motorhome to a holiday location that appeals to you and it is somewhere that you are really looking forward to visiting. Perhaps travel to somewhere that you have not visited before.
By travelling a fairly short distance you will hopefully not get too tired enabling you to better enjoy your break when you arrive at your destination. You will hopefully arrive more relaxed. Perhaps avoid travelling 200/300 miles for your first rip away in your motorhome. Don’t rush – take your time. The faster you travel the more likely you are to be involved in a road traffic accident.
Having said all that, there will be some people who are determined to take their motorhome overseas for its first trip. If you are one of those people then do make sure that you do your research and select one or more suitable campsites to stay at.
You may wish to consider doing a motorhome manoeuvring course before embarking on your first holiday in the vehicle. This will better prepare you for getting behind the wheel of the vehicle.
You may also wish to avoid travelling on single-track roads with passing places until you are feeling more comfortable behind the wheel of your motorhome. After all, you would probably prefer not to be faced with an approaching vehicle resulting in you having to revers your leisure vehicle 50 yards into a passing place.
We do hope that wherever you decide to travel to for your first holiday in your motorhome that you enjoy your break and don’t encounter any problems.
