If you are the owner of a motorhome who likes to get away a few times a year in your leisure vehicle around the UK, you may be interested in some research that has recently been carried out by Ordnance Survey.

The research was undertaken with 2,000 adults taking part and it discovered, on average, just how few counties in England, Scotland and Wales whilst he or she was alive.

The research revealed that, on average, adults visited only 10 of the 84 counties in England, Scotland and Wales.

The top 5 counties visited were: –

1. Greater London 38%
2. Greater Manchester 31%
3. Norfolk 25%
4. North Yorkshire 25%
5. Kent 23%

It probably does not come as a surprise to readers to see that the capital city in England is the most visited out of everywhere. Of course, it would be interesting to find out what percentage of people visit that city in their motorhome. It may well be that motorhome owners prefer to visit more coastal areas or the countryside rather than park up for a few nights in London.

In Scotland, the areas that were visited the most were the City of Edinburgh with 23%, Glasgow City with 21% and the Scottish Borders with 15%. Again, it would be interesting to know how many motorhome owners decide to spend a few days in their leisure vehicles in the likes of Edinburgh or Glasgow compared to touring around the coastline of Scotland or the Scottish Highlands.

In Wales, the top 3 counties visited were Gwynedd at 7%, Powys at 6% and Gwent at 5%.

The research happened to also discover that 90% of adults were confident when it came to making use of their digital phones to use maps. However, 44% of adults expressed the view that if they were blessed with navigational skills that were better they would get out more and about exploring the British counties. Interestingly, when it comes to being adventurous whilst on holiday, 69% of adults felt they were just that.
