There are still an awful lot of people struggling financially here in the UK. So we are sure that you will agree it is great to hear that the average cost of insuring a car continues to fall. After all, a lot of owners of motorhomes probably also possess a family saloon car or family hatchback car. On a quarterly basis, the comparison website known as Confused.com produces it car insurance price index and its latest one covering the three months to November 2025 reveals that the average cost of car insurance has dropped to £726 per annum. This is a fall of an average of £111 per annum in the space of 12 months equating to a drop of 13%. We are sure you will agree this is a considerable fall.
Whilst premiums have fallen, it is worth noting that 42% of motorists here in the UK saw their renewal quote increase by an average of £72 per annum in the three-month period to November 2025. It is also interesting to note that drivers who took the time and trouble to shop around were able to save, on average, £87 per annum. This just shows how important it is to get competitive quotes from other car insurance providers.
As is usually the case, it is the young driver who pays more for his or her car insurance with an 18 year old being charged an average of £2,262 per annum. This is actually £504 per annum less than a year ago but nevertheless is a considerable sum of money for many young drivers to have to find to insure their cars. A 20 to 29 year old motorist paid an average of £1,304 per annum and a 50 to 59 year old an average of £547 per annum. As you can see, there is a huge variance in premiums.
One of the reasons why young drivers pay more for car insurance is that he or she is more likely to get involved in a road traffic accident due to their inexperience at driving a motor vehicle.
