If you own a motorhome then you will no doubt be aware of the weight limit restriction in place for being able to drive a motorhome up to a certain weight if you only possess a category B car license. If your motorhome weighs no more than 3,500 kg then you should be fine to drive such a leisure vehicle.

However if the motorhome weighs 3,500 to 7,500 kg then a Category C1 license is required.

The petition has already raised more than 4,000 signatures and it will be interesting to see just how many more signatures can be obtained. The petition is proposing that the weight limit be increased to 4,250 kg for a person to be able to drive such a motorhome on a category B license.

If the petition was successful and the driving law was changed then this may mean that an awful lot of business’s that sell new and used motorhomes will welcome such a decision. This is because it may mean that people looking to purchase a motorhome may be prepared to consider buying a heavier and larger leisure vehicle. Such as vehicle may well cost more than a smaller motorhome thus providing an increased profit potentially to sellers of motorhomes here in the UK.

Of course, there will presumably be quite a few people who would be against such a move from a safety aspect. This is because there will be many people who consider it is more dangerous to drive a heavier motorhome around our roads in the UK and further afield.

Over the years, we have probably seen larger motorhomes come onto the market place as people are looking for a leisure vehicle that comes equipped with many luxuries that are found in a family home. For instance, improved and larger bathroom and toilet facilities and a larger kitchen area filled with numerous white goods.

Needless to say, we will do our best to keep our readers up to date with the above.
