It is quite possible that a large number of people who own a motorhome also go about on a daily basis in a car. Whether it is to commute to work or go to the shops it is more likely that a car will be used rather than a motorhome.
Motorists will be pleased to hear that the average cost of insuring a car has fallen yet again and has been doing for more than 2 years. According to the Confused.com Car Insurance Price Index that was published on the 17th September 2025 the average cost of such cover was £735 per annum as at the 31st August 2025. A year prior to that date, car insurance premiums averaged 3136 per annum less. A sizeable fall.
Whilst the above index relates to car insurance, it may be that the average cost of motorhome insurance may also have fallen.
You may or may not be aware that there are quite a few things that impact how much car insurance providers charge for such cover. For example, the claims history of the driver, the make and the model of the car, the number of miles a car is driven in a 12 month period, what the car is used for, the age of the driver and where the driver resides.
Younger drivers are more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident due to their inexperience and this is reflected in the premium he or she is charged. For instance, a 17 year old pays an average of £2,008 per annum with this sum falling by £780 per annum in the space of a year. An 18 year old pays an average of £2,342 per annum with this amount having dropped by £569 per annum in a year. A 30 year old pays an average of £997 per annum and a 60m year old an average of £494 per annum. As you can see, there is a large difference.
Where the driver lives also has a significant impact on the premium. If you live in Inner London ten, on average, you will pay more top insure your car than anywhere else in the UK with premiums averaging £1,149 per annum. Those living in Leeds and Sheffield pay an average of £818 per annum. The average premium in the South East is £621 per annum. In South Wales the average premium is £573 per annum. If you reside in the South West then the average premium is 3499 per annum – the lowest region in the UK.
